Governor Alex Otti of Abia State assured that under his leadership, there will be no division among residents, whether indigenous or non-indigenous.
He noted that his administration prioritizes competence and what individuals can contribute to the state, irrespective of their origin.
These remarks were made during a Thanksgiving service at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Umuahia, marking his one-year anniversary in office.
“I think what is most important is also that this administration does not discriminate, we don’t even want to know what part of Abia you’re coming from.
“We don’t even want to know what part of Igboland you come from. Once you reside here (in Abia), you are a part of us.
“That is why today, we have for the first time a Permanent Secretary, who does not come from Abia State, who does not come from any state in the South East but comes from Edo state,” Governor Otti stated.
Otti, who previously stated his administration’s decision to forgo a celebration marking his one-year tenure, has now announced plans for a substantial multi-billion naira terminal project consolidating all motor parks and a railway station into a single location in Umuahia.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
Highlighting the transformation of Umuahia, which he once described as a mere village, Otti pledged a comprehensive overhaul of the city’s infrastructure within the coming year, including the extension of the railway from Aba.
He urged Abia citizens for continued prayers and support, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to uphold its principles despite opposition criticism.
During a thanksgiving service, Reverend Uma Onwunta of the Presbyterian Church delivered a sermon emphasizing the importance of gratitude in the eyes of God.
