As Expected, INEC Announces APC’s Aiyedatiwa Winner of Ondo Guber Poll Amid Allegations of Vote Buying

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.

The declaration was made by the Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, at the INEC headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, on Sunday at 2:29 pm.

According to Prof. Akinwunmi, Aiyedatiwa secured 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes. Adeyemi Nejo of the African Democratic Party (ADP) came third with 4,138 votes.

The APC candidate won all 18 local government areas in the state, achieving a landslide victory.

Despite the peaceful conduct of the election, voter turnout was low, and the exercise was reportedly marred by allegations of vote-buying.

Aiyedatiwa, who succeeded the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in December 2023, has now been elected to serve a four-year term as governor of Ondo State.
