The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a total of 19 political parties have officially notified the commission of their intention to participate in the forthcoming Ondo State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.
During a meeting held with representatives of political parties at the commission’s office in Akure, the state capital, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oluwatoyin Babalola, revealed this information.
The political parties that have expressed their intention to partake in the election include the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party (AP), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), African Democratic Party (ADP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Additionally, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Youth Party (YP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) have also notified INEC of their participation.
The REC emphasized the importance of political parties’ adherence to guidelines, rules, and regulations outlined in their constitutions and electoral laws during the conduct of their primaries, which are scheduled to take place from April 6 to 27.Teenage Girl, 3 Others Killed, 7 Injured in US Stabbing Spree.

Stressing the significance of internal democracy within parties, Babalola urged parties to ensure that their primaries are conducted peacefully, orderly, and transparently to guarantee the credibility of the outcomes and mitigate potential tensions and pre-election disputes.
