The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed the claims that it has withdrawn the passwords for uploading the results of the governorship elections in Imo State to the Results Viewing (IReV) portal.
The commission said the allegations were false and aimed at creating confusion and doubt among the public.
The commission was reacting to a post by Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a former chairman of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, who had alleged on his X Platform (formerly Twitter) account that some “concerned workers” of INEC had informed him that the passwords issued to the Local Government Area (LGA) Supervisors for use by the Assistant Presiding Officers (APO1s) had been removed without any reason.
He had also suggested that the IReV portal might malfunction on election day.

INEC, however, clarified that the passwords had been securely released for use by the designated officials in line with its procedure. It also stated that the Presiding Officers (POs), and not the APO1s, were responsible for uploading the results to the IReV portal. It urged the public to disregard such insinuations and expect more of them before, during and after the elections.
The IReV portal is an online platform that allows the public to view the results of the elections as they are being collated by the INEC officials.
The portal was introduced by the commission in 2020 to enhance the transparency and credibility of the electoral process. The portal will be used for the governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023.
