The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Prof. Sylva Agu, has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is ready for the governorship election in the state scheduled for November 11, 2023.
She spoke in a recent interview about the preparation of the commission, the security situation in the state, and the allegation against her.
Prof. Agu said that the off-season election in Imo and the other states was an opportunity for INEC to redeem its image, considering the outcome of the last general elections.
She said that she would not be the only one conducting the election, as other RECs from across the nation would be coming to help her.
She expressed confidence that the problem of uploading results, which affected the presidential election, would be a thing of the past.

Agu also said that INEC had been engaging the security agencies, and they had assured the commission that there would be elections in all the polling units in Imo State, except where there were zero units.
She said that INEC was not armed and relied on the security agencies to protect its staff, materials, facilities, and electorate. She commended the government for its intervention and support to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
The Commissioner dismissed the allegation that she was working for the All Progressives Congress, saying that it was baseless and unfounded.
She said that she was focused on delivering her mandate and conducting a free and fair election in the state.
