The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the schedule for upcoming bye-elections and re-run elections, which are required due to vacancies in the National and State Houses of Assembly. These vacancies have arisen due to the resignation or passing of several members of these legislative bodies.

The vacancies affect two senatorial districts, four federal constituencies, and three state constituencies, impacting a total of nine states within the federation.

In addition to this, the Commission is preparing to conduct re-run elections as per the directives from various Election Petition Appeal Tribunals, which affect 35 constituencies. Out of these, comprehensive re-run elections will be held in three constituencies, while the rest will involve specific polling units.

These elections are scheduled to take place simultaneously across all affected constituencies on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024.

To promote transparency and facilitate the electoral process, the Commission has made the detailed timetable available online, which includes crucial delimitation data such as registration areas, polling unit names, the number of registered voters, and PVCs collected. This information is available on its official website and social media platforms.

The Commission stated that this information is intended to guide political parties, candidates, and the general public.

In a statement, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, stressed the importance of adhering to the outlined timelines for a smooth and efficient electoral process.

The Commission also called for strict compliance from all parties and candidates involved in the elections.
