Okpebholo– I Inherited Dilapidated Roads, Infrastructure, But Will Only Do What Tinubu Requested

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has revealed that his administration took over a state burdened with failing road networks and deteriorating infrastructure.

He pledged to address the widespread infrastructural decay left behind by his predecessor, assuring residents of imminent road repairs across the state.

As part of efforts to secure political support, Governor Okpebholo also launched a door-to-door campaign in preparation for the August 16 senatorial by-election. He urged residents to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate seeking to replace him in the Senate as the representative for Edo Central.

During the weekend, the governor embarked on an inspection tour of multiple damaged road sections across the Edo Central Senatorial District. He announced his administration’s readiness to rehabilitate the roads to stimulate economic activity and improve the living conditions of people in the region.

Among the roads inspected were the Onewa-Udomi-Ibhiolulu-Afada-Idumoza-Eko-Uwaya-Ewora routes. He also visited deteriorating sections of the New Agbor Road and Illushi Road in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area.

“Bad roads across Edo State are one of the things I inherited from former Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the eight years they were in power.
I was with the President about a week ago, and he told us as governors to look into our bad roads and fix them. So, I am going around to implement what Mr. President requested from the Governors,”
he stated.

Referring to Illushi Road, Okpebholo described it as a vital link connecting various parts of the country and emphasized that construction work would commence soon.

He highlighted the strategic importance of New Agbor Road, saying it plays a key role in connecting Edo State to the Eastern region.

“This road is very important as it is a link and the gateway between the North and the Eastern part of Nigeria. The road can take us to Agbor, Asaba, Onitsha, and other Eastern parts of Nigeria.”

As part of his grassroots mobilization for the upcoming senatorial by-election, the governor inaugurated a door-to-door campaign team to support APC’s Hon. Joe Ikpea.

Addressing campaign volunteers in Uromi over the weekend, Okpebholo encouraged the youth to back the APC candidate and cautioned them against supporting contenders from rival parties.

He described the by-election as a defining moment for young political actors in the state.

“This is the time to drive door-to-door campaigns for APC candidates. We are serious about giving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2.5 million votes during 2027 presidential elections.
For the election coming up on the 16th of this month, APC will win the entire five local government areas in Edo Central. We will win five out of five. We are not taking anything for granted.”

Okpebholo also criticized the previous administration, alleging it failed to provide basic services to the people.

“The opposition was in power for many years, yet our people suffered from underdevelopment and infrastructural decay. No schools. No road. No electricity and the basic necessities of life are not there for Edo people.
But today, under my administration, the difference is clear, and our work has shown our seriousness to improve the lives of Edo people,”
he added. #Okpebholo#Edo
