Current Insecurity in Nigeria is Nemesis, Karma at Work, Political Commentator, Mahdi Shehu Shades Tinubu Government

A Nigerian political commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has linked the current security struggles facing the Bola Tinubu-led administration to what he describes as “nemesis and karma” at work.

Speaking in a recent video circulating online, Shehu argued that the insecurity confronting the country today mirrors what played out during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, when, according to him, Boko Haram attacks were allegedly weaponised for political gains.

He claimed that desperate politicians at the time blackmailed former President Jonathan, using the Boko Haram insurgency as a tool to discredit his government and push him out of power by all means.

Shehu suggested that many of those who participated in what he termed the “politicisation of insecurity” are now confronted with the consequences of their actions as they struggle to contain similar threats under the current leadership.

The commentator maintained that Nigeria’s security crisis has long been entangled with politics, warning that until leaders stop exploiting national tragedies for personal ambition, the cycle of instability will continue.

Shehu argued that many of the political actors who allegedly exploited the insurgency during the Jonathan era are now the ones struggling to contain the very insecurity they once used as a political tool.

He stated: The same people who turned insecurity into a campaign strategy are now in government. Today, they are overwhelmed by the same fire they helped ignite.”

The commentator warned that Nigeria’s long-running security crisis has deep political roots that will persist unless leaders stop manipulating national tragedies for electoral advantage.

In his words, “Until we separate politics from national security and stop using bloodshed as propaganda, Nigeria will continue to suffer.”
