The Senate has rescheduled its meeting with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, to Friday due to the urgent need to address the security challenges in the country.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said the committee had waited for almost two hours for Mr. Cardoso, who was busy with another session with the House of Representatives.
He explained that the committee decided to move the meeting to Friday by 9:00 a.m., as the Senate had summoned the service chiefs to appear before it on Wednesday and Thursday.

He stated, “After waiting close to two hours for the CBN governor on the planned interface, we have resolved to postpone it to Friday by 9:00 a.m. prompt.
”Postponement of the interface between our committee and the CBN governor arose from the fact that he and other managers of the nation’s economy have been interfacing with our colleagues in the House of Representatives since morning without knowing when exactly the session will end.
“We would have fixed Wednesday or Thursday as a new day for the interface, but the Senate, as a whole, has fixed the two days for very critical and constructive engagement with the service chiefs.
“This made us eventually settle for Friday for interface with the CBN governor.”
The Senate had earlier held a closed-door session for over two hours, during which it mourned the death of Senator Bukar Ibrahim, who represented Yobe East Senatorial District.
The Senate also constituted a nine-member delegation, led by Senator Adamu Aliero (PDP-Kebbi), to pay a condolence visit to the government and people of Yobe State, as well as the family of the late senator.
