Israel Forms Emergency Cabinet Amid Gaza War

Israel has established an emergency unity cabinet in response to the growing confrontation with Hamas.

The battle against Hamas is the sole priority of the new war government, which is headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Tanks have gathered around the Palestinian enclave as Israeli jets have ramped up their attacks on Gaza. Three Hamas militants were reportedly killed by Israeli forces in a recent clash on Israeli land close by.

In Israel, there have been 1,200 fatalities and almost 2,700 injuries. Israeli attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip in reprisal have left 5,339 people injured and 1,100 dead. 535 residential buildings were destroyed, leaving almost 250,000 individuals without a place to live.

Former defence minister Benny Gantz, a leader of the centrist opposition, Parallel Facts gathered, is a member of the emergency government.

Gantz emphasised that their alliance is not political but rather based on a shared destiny.

This feeling was echoed by Netanyahu, who said that because the future of their homeland was at stake, all disagreements had been set aside.

To avert a wider Middle East conflict, US President Joe Biden has sent Antony Blinken, his senior diplomat, to the area.

In the meantime, Israel has stationed formations of tanks and armoured vehicles close to Gaza, maybe in readiness for a ground invasion of the Hamas-controlled coastal outpost.
