An Israeli drone strike destroyed a weapons depot in the coastal Syrian city of Jableh before dawn on Thursday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The UK-based monitoring group reported that drones and warplane missiles were used in the attack, which leveled the depot and triggered massive explosions that were heard from afar.
The Observatory noted that Syrian air defenses, along with Russian forces, responded to the assault within 40 to 50 minutes.
The weapons depot was located near the Hmeimim Air Base, Russia’s largest military installation in Syria, situated in Latakia province.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Although there was no official confirmation, the pro-government Sham FM radio stated that the noises heard over Jableh were the result of air defenses intercepting targets off the coast.
The station also reported that firefighting teams were dispatched to the area after columns of fire were observed, but no further details were provided.

This strike is part of a string of Israeli attacks in Syria this week.
On Wednesday, an Israeli airstrike in the Mazzeh Western Villas neighborhood of Damascus killed two Lebanese nationals, including Hassan Jafar Qasir, the son-in-law of former Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
The previous day, another Israeli missile strike hit a site just 500 meters from Wednesday’s target, killing three people, including a journalist, and wounding nine others.
Israel regularly conducts airstrikes in Syria, targeting sites it claims are linked to Iran and Hezbollah.
