The Israeli army has officially announced the killing of Hezbollah’s long-time leader, Hassan Nasrallah, following targeted airstrikes on Beirut.
Nasrallah, who led the Iran-backed militant group for 32 years, was reportedly the primary target of Friday’s strikes.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that Nasrallah “will no longer be able to terrorize the world,” signaling a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.
Hezbollah has yet to respond to the Israeli military’s announcement.
The assassination of the Hezbollah leader marks a turning point in Israel’s approach to the conflict, as it had previously refrained from targeting the group’s most senior leaders since the outbreak of hostilities on October 8, following Hamas’ attacks on southern Israel.
Recent months, however, have seen Israel eliminate several high-ranking Hezbollah members.
