Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, has stated that an intensified ground campaign has brought the ongoing combat in Gaza into a new phase.
Gallant declared that a new phase of the war against the Hamas rulers of the territory had begun. “Last evening, the ground shook in Gaza. We attacked above-ground and underground. The instructions to the forces are clear. The campaign will continue until further notice.” Gallant declared this during statements that were aired on Saturday.
With the support of heavy air and naval assaults, the Israeli military has increased the size of its ground operation in Gaza, sending tanks and troops. Most of Gaza’s communications were disrupted by the bombing, which locals called the most intensive of the war.
This action allowed the Israeli military to take control of the narrative in a new round of fighting while essentially cutting off the 2.3 million residents of the beleaguered enclave from the outside world. Images showed tank columns driving slowly across open regions of Gaza, many of which appeared to be close to the border, provided by the military on Saturday.
One of the campaign’s goals is to eliminate Hamas’s military and political apparatus. Gallant presented the campaign’s three-phase plan. In order to neutralize terrorists and destroy Hamas infrastructure, the initial step entails strikes and maneuvers.
Lower-intensity operations will be carried out in the second phase with the goal of removing “pockets of resistance,” he stated. “The removal of Israel’s responsibility for life in the Gaza strip” will be necessary for the last phase.
International observers are closely following developments as this situation plays out. A resolution urging a “sustained humanitarian truce” and an end to hostilities between Israel and Gaza was approved by the UN General Assembly.
