The lawmaker representing West Virginia’s 2nd District in Congress, Riley Moore, has described the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria as “a genocide.”
Moore made the statement on Saturday in a tweet, sharing his interview with Fox News where he addressed the recent surge in killings and abductions across the country.
He stressed that it is the responsibility of the Nigerian government to collaborate with the United States to tackle terrorism, warning that failure to do so could prompt intervention from President Donald Trump.
He said, “The persecution of Christians in Nigeria is escalating out of control. I believe it is now a genocide,” Moore wrote.
He added that Nigeria must meet certain conditions to secure U.S. military cooperation, “It is up to the Nigerian government to work with the United States to stop the killings and kidnappings of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
“This human tragedy has to end, or else @POTUS has made it clear that he will take action to stop this tragedy.”
