The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has issued a cautionary message to Nigerians considering relocation abroad, commonly known as “japa,” to desist from such movement without proper documentation.

She revealed this during her visit to a shelter in Brampton, Canada.

Dabiri-Erewa stressed the importance of leaving legitimately and with proper documentation to avoid potential “unpleasant consequences.”

In a statement released by the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, on Thursday, Dabiri-Erewa expressed sympathy for the Nigerians she encountered at the shelter.

She urged those without proper documentation who are seeking asylum to reconsider, noting that the situation is becoming increasingly challenging in many countries.

Dabiri-Erewa underscored the risks involved in attempting to migrate without proper legal channels, stating, “It is just not worth it, more often than not.” #Japa
