George Mfongang, the NYSC coordinator in Rivers State, has expressed concern over the rising trend of young Nigerian graduates migrating abroad in search of better opportunities.
He shared his thoughts during a meeting on Tuesday with Nwamaka Ikediashi, the Rivers State commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), at his office in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Mfongang, who described Nigeria as “a great country with great potential” for its young graduates, urged both leaders and citizens to embrace patriotism, discipline, honesty, and selflessness to contribute to the nation’s improvement.
This discussion followed a request from Ms. Ikediashi to allow NAPTIP to educate corps members during orientation camps about the dangers of illegal migration.
Mr. Mfongang suggested that she direct this request to the NYSC headquarters through NAPTIP’s central office.
He assured her that if the proposal were included in the NYSC’s nationwide orientation schedule, corps members in Rivers State would greatly benefit from the awareness programs.

Ms. Ikediashi explained that her visit aimed to establish a partnership with the NYSC to educate corps members on the risks associated with illegal migration, especially targeting young graduates.
She highlighted NAPTIP’s commitment to working strategically with the NYSC to deter corps members from falling prey to illegal migration due to its severe consequences.
She also warned corps members to be wary of fraudulent agencies and agents who lure young graduates with false promises of good jobs and better lives abroad, only to trap them in prostitution, drug trafficking, forced labor, or even organ trafficking.
