The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is embroiled in a major scandal after a substantial amount of cash and valuables vanished from its Lagos Zonal Command.
According to sources who spoke to PRNigeria, between $350,000 and $400,000 were lost, along with pricey jewellery and other high-value items.
This incident follows the EFCC’s dismissal of 27 officials for misconduct and fraudulent activities, which raised questions about accountability and oversight within the agency.
The EFCC recently dismissed a number of officials in response to recommendations from the EFCC Staff Disciplinary Committee, which Chairman Ola Olukoyede approved.

This move comes as the commission is investigating the disappearance of the funds and grappling with the challenge of restoring public trust.
As an agency combatting financial crimes, the EFCC is under scrutiny for alleged weaknesses in its internal controls, which have raised concerns about its effectiveness in preventing corruption within its own ranks.
Mr. Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, declined to confirm or refute the information when SaharaReporters contacted him to do so. However, he directed our correspondent to a report that was released on Wednesday, in which the EFCC declared that ten personnel from its Lagos Zonal Command had been arrested and detained on suspicion of stealing.
According to the anti-corruption agency’s statement, the officers who were detained last week at the direction of Ola Olukoyede, the agency’s chairman, were responding to inquiries about the theft of some operational supplies for which they were unable to provide an explanation.
Investigators are moving forward, and those found guilty will face internal disciplinary procedures, the EFCC said.
“In its continuing efforts to sweep the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, clean of corrupt tendencies, 10 officers of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, are being detained over investigation of some missing items involving them.
“The officers, who were arrested last week on the directives of the Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede are answering questions related to the theft of some operational items that they could not account for.
“Investigators are making good progress, and those found culpable will be subjected to internal disciplinary processes,” the statement read.
