The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos has heavily criticised the state of the judicial system in Nigeria, asserting that the Judiciary has been compromised and no longer serves as the beacon of hope for ordinary citizens.
The PDP leaders convened at the Ikoyi office of the party’s leader in Lagos, Chief Olabode George, where they collectively expressed their concerns about the current state of the judicial system in the country.
Reading a communique signed by 33 prominent party leaders, including Chief (Mrs) Onikepo Oshodi, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor Akerele, and Dr Charles Akintoye, Chief George emphasized the prevailing discontent with the judiciary, stating that what is emanating from the third arm of government is offensive to millions of Nigerians.
He argued that a compromised judicial system poses a significant threat to democracy, asserting, “And when the judiciary is compromised, one way or the other, in a democratic system, then democracy is gone.”
Chief George disclosed, “Many Nigerians believe that members of the executive and legislature are already living on a different planet. So, they see the judiciary as the last ‘Estate’ standing in the ‘Realm’.’’
He also pointed out that in Nigeria, there are still hundreds of Judges upholding the sanctity of the judiciary, adding that they will not only give judgements but they deliver Justice and Nigerians still believe in them.

George said the judiciary lost its credibility because of conflicting and contradictory judgements coming from a few, saying, “The belief of many Nigerians in the judiciary is understandably shaken. And this is worrisome because if the people don’t believe in the third arm of government anymore, anarchy looms.”
Highlighting concerns about corruption within the judicial system, he revealed, “Today, many Nigerians point to some corrupt judges who escape unscathed to enjoy their ill-gotten wealth because the system is weak or compromised to do proper investigation.’’
