The Senate has officially inaugurated Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the new senator representing Kogi Central senatorial district.
Notably, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s swearing-in marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the first female senator to represent Kogi State. Furthermore, her induction into the 10th Upper Legislative Chamber makes her the fourth female Senator in this session.
The ceremony was presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who instructed the Senate Clerk to administer the oath of office to Akpoti-Uduaghan on Thursday. This action was prompted by her presentation of the Certificate of Return, awarded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), confirming her as the duly elected Senator for Kogi Central.

This development follows a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal, issued on Tuesday, which upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan as the victor in the Kogi Central senatorial district election. The election petition tribunal had previously, on September 6, affirmed her as the duly elected Senator, citing irregularities such as inflated polling results in favor of her opponent in some units and deliberate undercounting against Akpoti-Uduaghan.
