The Nigerian Army has dismissed claims by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) that soldiers are surrounding the venue of an ongoing meeting between the NLC and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

In a statement, the Army clarified that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is also attending the meeting, arrived with his officially approved military escorts. The Army emphasized that these escorts are standard protocol for the NSA and will leave with him once the meeting is over.

The Army urged the public to ignore the NLC’s false report and not to be misled by this misinformation.

The statement partly reads, “The attention of Army Headquarters has been drawn to false breaking news by NLC alleging that soldiers currently surround the venue of the ongoing meeting between NLC and the SGF.

“Kindly note that the NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is also attending the meeting, arrived at the meeting venue with his retinue of statutorily approved military escorts. Once the meeting is over, the escorts will lead the NSA from the venue.

“Kindly disregard the deliberate and misleading falsehood being peddled about the presence of the escorts at the meeting.”

Parallel Facts reported that NLC said that Soldiers are currently surrounding the venue of the meeting between the Organised Labour and the Federal Government.

According to the report, military presence is intended to intimidate Organised Labour.
