JUST IN: Pedestrian Bridge Collapses in Lagos

A newly constructed pedestrian bridge at Five Stars Bus Stop, inward Iyana-Isolo, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, area of Lagos, partly collapsed in early hours, Thursday.

According to investigations conducted by Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, the incident was caused by an unknown articulated truck conveying heavy duty equipment which collided with the pedestrian bridge which resulted in the cracks and eventual collapse of the bridge.

Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said heavy-duty equipment-giant forklift was activated to evacuate the impediment in order to avert all probable secondary incidents.

“The entire bridge had been cordoned-off by the agency’s Response Team.

“Decommissioning efforts of the remaining concrete members of the pedestrian bridge has been kick-started to ensure public safety,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated
