JUST IN: Suspected Terrorists Kill Four in Fresh Attack on Enugu Community

At least four people have been confirmed dead in a fresh assault by terrorists often dubbed as herdsmen on Ikpakpara village, located in the Agu-Amed area of Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The attack, which took place on Sunday evening, left several residents missing as search efforts continue to locate the victims, either alive or deceased.

A community leader, Ogbuzuru Ebe, who spoke to SaharaReporters by phone on Monday, disclosed that four corpses were discovered in farmlands, while search parties were still trying to find seven more villagers unaccounted for after the incident.

This assault adds to a troubling pattern of recurring violence in the Eha-Amufu region, where numerous residents have reportedly lost their lives in attacks attributed to herdsmen. The region has also witnessed rampant cases of sexual violence against women.

Community leaders are voicing growing frustration and desperation, accusing the government of failing to prevent these brutal invasions or bring the perpetrators to justice. Residents say local authorities, especially the council chairman, have not shown adequate commitment to bolstering security in the affected areas.

The latest violence underscores ongoing concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Enugu State and renews calls for decisive measures to address the longstanding farmer-herder conflict.

Ironically, the attack came barely a day after Enugu State Police Commissioner CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa paid a visit to Eha-Amufu as part of what was described as a routine surveillance and community engagement exercise. He was joined by top officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Gregory Itobore, Udenu Area Commander ACP Bernard Amaga Ukwa, and others from tactical units of the police command.

Efforts to get a response from the state police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful as of press time. Calls went unanswered and a follow-up message received no reply.
