Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has declared that no amount of threats or plots to manipulate election results in the state ahead of 2027 will succeed, warning that anyone contemplating rigging should “write their will” first.
Otti gave the warning on Thursday during the October edition of “Alex Otti Speaks to Abians” held at the Government House, Umuahia.
Otti was reacting to a question from a journalist concerning a recent statement credited to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, where he (the Deputy Speaker) said that his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), will take over the rulership of Abia in 2027.
Kalu, while speaking with groups loyal to him, said, “We have come to take over, and there is no going back because we want to work with the president to move our state forward. It is about the love we have for our president. We are all gathering momentum for what will come in 2027. We are here to move the state and the federal government forward.”
The Labour Party governor dismissed the claim as political posturing, saying the mandate of Abians cannot be subverted.
I have heard that some people around him say, oh, they must take over this state, they must write results. The only advice I have for them is that if they truly want to write results, they should write something else before that time. You know what it is? Their will,” Otti said.

He added that only the will of God and the people of Abia would determine the outcome of the next election.
Otti described Kalu as a “friend and younger brother” but noted that political ambition must not destroy the peace in the state.
“I am not afraid of threats. He is entitled to contest the 2027 governorship election, but he must learn to play according to the rules,” he stated.
The governor also stated that he had forgiven Kalu for what he described as unwarranted criticism of his administration.
