Kano: APC and NNPP Plans Protest Following Court Ruling

Tensions are escalating in Kano as both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have scheduled street demonstrations for Saturday.

The cause of this unrest stems from the recent decision by the Appeal Court, which ousted Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and declared Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the APC as the winner of the March 18 election in the state.

The Director-General of the Gawuna/Garo Campaign Organisation, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, along with other APC stakeholders, held a press conference on Thursday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Bichi announced that the NNPP planned a mass protest in Kano on Saturday, following a meeting with their leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. In response, the APC intends to organize a mass rally on the same day in support of their candidate.

The controversy surrounding the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment added fuel to the fire, as the appeal court reaffirmed the removal of Governor Yusuf despite discrepancies in the document.

Bichi, addressing concerns about potential violence, emphasized the APC’s commitment to maintaining law and order. He stated, “We are law-abiding citizens and will not do anything to disturb peace, but we will not hesitate to protect our lives and belongings.

” Expressing apprehension about the situation, Bichi urged the Kano State police command and other security agencies to take proactive measures to prevent any loss of life and property.

“However, the people of Kano have been living in perpetual fear of intimidation and threat to life and property, since the assumption of office, starting with the orgy of violence by elements of the NNPP, targeted at APC.”

Alleging a rise in tension since the return of NNPP’s leader, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, to Kano, Bichi accused elements of the NNPP of orchestrating violence against the APC, creating a sense of fear among the people of Kano.
