Kano: Certified Appeal Court Ruling Affirms Yusuf’s Triumph, Sparks Confusion

Court

A certified copy of the Appeal Court’s judgement on the Kano State Governorship election has solidified Abba Yusuf’s victory as the duly elected Governor.

Recall that Parallel Facts reported that the Abuja-based Court of Appeal recently removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State from office after a three-judge panel ruled that the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) violated the constitution by endorsing Yusuf, who was not a member of the party

The written judgement, released on Tuesday and signed by the registrar, Jameel Ibrahim Umar, highlights the Court of Appeal’s decision to set aside the Kano election petition tribunal’s judgement, citing a lack of merit.

Page 67 of the released judgement contains crucial evidence supporting the victory of Abba Kabiru Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The appellate court, comprising a three-member panel, dismissed the appeal filed by Governor Yusuf on November 17, 2023, based on his membership status.

Contrary to the initial ruling in the courtroom on November 17, the certified copy of the judgement has vindicated Abba Yusuf as the legitimate Governor of Kano State.

The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, emphasized that page 67 of the certified copy clearly overturns the tribunal’s ruling that had initially sacked Governor Yusuf.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday evening, Barrister Dederi insisted that the written evidence now establishes Abba Yusuf as the rightful winner of the March 25, 2023, governorship poll in Kano, affirming Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the true victor.
