Kano Hisbah Detains 52 Tricycle Riders for ‘Immoral Haircuts’

The Kano State Hisbah Board detained 52 commercial tricycle operators, commonly known as Yan Adaidaita Sahu, for alleged offenses including “immoral haircuts,” illegal drug sales, and mixing genders in their tricycles.

Hisbah Command operatives apprehended the riders from various areas within Kano city as part of “Operation Kau da Badala” (Operation Fight against immorality), a recent initiative aimed at cleansing the state of immoral practices like prostitution, drug abuse, and alcohol consumption.

During a Friday address to the tricycle riders, Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, encouraged them to uphold Islamic values and promote the image of Kano State by avoiding social misconduct.

“We want to use this opportunity to appeal to you to avoid such acts and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of our religion and culture of Kano people, ” he said.

He further stated that the purported transgressions of the tricyclists encompassed “indecent hairstyles, riding scantily clad, displaying objectionable posters on their vehicles, mingling unrelated men and women, peddling illegal drugs, and transporting women to locations where they participate in immoral activities.”

He stated that the board would persist in monitoring illegal activities among tricyclists to apprehend those who persist in defiance.

Tricycle riders were reportedly brought to the board’s headquarters, where they received admonishments from officials before being released.
