Kano Hisbah Arrests 15 for Prostitution, Seizes 8,600 Bottles of Beer

Kano State Hisbah

Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 15 young women on suspicion of prostitution during operations in different parts of Kano City.

Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed the arrest and stated that some of the suspected prostitutes had been arrested multiple times and charged with crimes, but they continued to operate in the illegal business.

“Unfortunately, some of these women travel to the state from their home states and nations, where they engage in prostitution and other deplorable behaviour.

“They engage in all kinds of activities as they wander Kano’s streets. To help us sanitise the state, we are urging the public to keep reporting such activities.

“However, when you talk with them, you will understand that they find themselves in this situation because of hardship,” Aminuddeen said.

During an interview, Zulaihat Ibrahim, a 19-year-old woman claiming to be from Kano’s Rimin Kebe area, revealed that she had been arrested at the Al-Jazeera Hotel.

“I was arrested near the Al-Jazeera Hotel. However, I stayed outside the hotel. I don’t do anything illegal, but we usually just hang out there,” she stated.

Also speaking to reporters on Saturday, Idris Ibrahim, the Kano State Hisbah Board’s officer in charge of intoxicants, revealed that alcoholic beverages were seized at Kwanar Dangora village near the Kano-Kaduna Motorway.

According to him, “The board has seized no fewer than 8,600 bottles of beer loaded in a van that came from Kaduna to Kano State.

Additionally, he said that operatives of the command had been tracking the vehicle from Kaduna until it came into Kano territory.

“The driver tried to flee when we pulled over at Kwanar Dangora village, but our agents caught him.

“You know it is illegal to sell and drink beer in Kano State. So, we are going to take the driver to court after taking his statement,” Ibrahim said.
