Kano State Government Rejects Appeal Court’s Explanation of Election Judgment Error

Kano

The Kano State government has vehemently rejected the Appeal Court’s clarification regarding an alleged typographical mistake in the Certified True Copy (CTC) of its judgment on the state’s governorship election.

The State Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, expressed strong disapproval of the Appeal Court’s explanation, labeling it “outrageously scandalous.”

The controversy revolves around the court initially declaring Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the election winner and removing Governor Abba Yusuf.

However, a CTC of the judgment surfaced, contradicting the original verdict by affirming Yusuf’s victory.

The court attributed the discrepancy to a typographical error, a claim that Dederi challenged on Channels TV Sunrise Daily.

He questioned the credibility of such an explanation, asking, “What is a typographical error? Does it affect one word? Does it affect two words? Does it affect three words? How can a typographical error affect whole paragraphs? This is something that cannot be accepted by any discernible mind.”

Dederi confirmed that Governor Abba Yusuf will contest the judgment at the Supreme Court, expressing confidence that the matter “would be resolved there.”

He emphasized that the CTC in circulation is “the only version we have as the judgment of the Court of Appeal. There is no corrected version; a typo error in the CTC is not tenable. It cannot be accepted.”

As the controversy escalates, the Kano State government remains adamant in its rejection of the Appeal Court’s explanation, setting the stage for a legal battle at the highest judicial level in the country.
