Katsina Governor Dikko Radda has called on residents of the state to be prepared to defend themselves in the face of terrorist attacks.
According to SaharaReporters, Radda in a recent video clip highlighted the disparity between the actual firepower of bandits and the fear they instigate among locals.
He stated, “If you check all the bandits in Katsina State, you will hardly find 700 guns in their possession. But the residents will hear and watch the malnourished bandits chasing away over 1000 residents and people will run and hide under their beds.”
Radda emphasised the role of clerics in educating the public on resisting banditry. He recalled a prophetic teaching: “The prophet of God said do not give them [bandits]. Even if they kill you, they will go to hellfire.”
The governor expressed deep dismay at the thought of such intrusions, asserting, “Nothing is more painful than seeing someone having sexual intercourse with your daughter in your presence.”
“We have to stand up and be courageous to protect ourselves. Anytime or whenever 10 bandits attack a community, if the locals come out in their hundreds, even if they kill three people, the community should be able to arrest whoever survives”
However, Radda said “they are liars, and they fear death more than we do. Their aim is to scare people, so why should we allow them to frighten us for no reason?
