Kenya Moves To Scrap Visa Requirements for AU Members

Kenya has continued to champion a new visa regime system that would see visa requirements scrapped for visitors coming from AU countries.

Speaking at a conference in Congo Brazzaville, Kenyan President William Ruto said, “When people cannot travel, businesspeople cannot travel, and entrepreneurs cannot travel, we all become net losers. As Kenya, by the end of this year, no African will be required to have a visa to come to Kenya.

Our children from this continent should not be locked in borders in Europe and also be locked in borders in Africa.”

His statements come as countless Africans face challenging hurdles to travel within the African continent, which has massively impacted the exchange of culture, trade, and rise in economics in Africa.

Many view this new visa regime as a stepping stone to a borderless Africa, which will lead to free trade and free movement just like in the European Union.

Experts expect the new visa regime to lead to massive economic benefits for Kenya, which is expected to receive a large number of visitors from other African countries when the new visa regime takes effect.

There are no reports that other African countries will follow suit, but many believe this is a promising development for Africa and the AU in general since the creation of the blog.

Nigeria maintains an easy visa regime for most African countries, which requires an e-visa for travelers from other African nations to gain access to the country.
