The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a significant rise in kerosene prices across the country.
According to its latest report, the average retail price of Household Kerosene (HHK) per litre and per gallon saw sharp increases on both a monthly and yearly basis.
The report shows that in October 2024, the average price per litre of HHK rose to N1,957.44, marking a 3.07% increase from N1,897.15 in September 2024. Year-on-year, this represents a 54.81% rise from N1,303.16 recorded in October 2023.
Similarly, the average price per gallon of HHK increased by 1.94%, reaching N6,949.75 in October 2024, compared to N6,818.11 in September 2024. On an annual basis, this reflects a 51.68% jump from N4,581.89 in October 2023.

The state-by-state analysis revealed that Abuja recorded the highest average price per litre at N2,875.00, followed by Akwa Ibom at N2,518.89 and Kaduna at N2,500.79. Meanwhile, the lowest prices were reported in Borno at N1,500.30, Bayelsa at N1,500.67, and Adamawa at N1,679.19.
These figures highlight the growing burden on households as kerosene prices continue to surge nationwide.
