“Concerns Over Relocation Is A Mere Storm In A Teacup”, Keyamo Insists on Moving FAAN Headquarters to Lagos

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to relocating the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos.

Amidst opposition, He dismissed concerns as “a storm in a teacup,” emphasizing the practicality of the decision. He stated, “They are all in Lagos, they are not really in Abuja,” highlighting the pre-existing operational setup with over 100 FAAN staff stationed in Lagos.

Addressing longstanding challenges within FAAN, He emphasized the need for digitalization and efficiency enhancements. He expressed shock at the agency’s annual expenditure of “N450 million on tickets alone,” underscoring the imperative for change.

Furthermore, Keyamo outlined broader sectoral strategies, including plans for a master plan to elevate Nigeria to the status of an aviation hub in Africa. Notably, he announced a substantial special intervention fund and collaborations with foreign investors to bolster infrastructure and services.

Regarding the much-debated national carrier, Keyamo remained steadfast, asserting, “No local airline would be adopted as a national carrier.” He underscored the government’s commitment to establishing a “proper national carrier,” citing ongoing efforts to secure a favorable arrangement.
