Kogi To Share 50 Bags of Rice Among 4.5m People As Palliative

In a bid to alleviate the economic hardship faced by its citizens, the Kogi State Government has embarked on a distribution initiative, providing 50 bags of rice as palliative measures. The distribution, aimed at the indigent population, is part of efforts to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic challenges in the state.

Governor Ahmed Ododo emphasized the importance of ensuring that the palliative reaches those most in need, cautioning officials against any diversion or hoarding of the relief items. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the distribution process, stating, “We have put in place the mechanism to track, identify and deal decisively with those who may want to hoard or divert the items from those who needed them most amongst us.”

The rice distribution is set to benefit households across the 239 wards in the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. Governor Ododo affirmed that measures have been implemented to monitor the distribution closely, underscoring the government’s resolve to prioritize the welfare of the citizens.

Expressing gratitude for the support received, Governor Ododo extended appreciation to the people for their understanding and patience during these challenging times. He also acknowledged the assistance of various stakeholders, including Bola Tinubu, in facilitating the distribution of the palliative to the indigent citizens.

Furthermore, Governor Ododo highlighted his administration’s long-term agricultural development plan aimed at ensuring food security in the state. He emphasized the need for self-sufficiency in food production, stating, “We must produce what we eat, eat what we produce and produce what others eat.”

The governor reassured the public that the distribution of palliative measures would be a quarterly exercise, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of the most vulnerable members of society.

In their remarks, Speaker of the Kogi House of Assembly, Umar Yusuf, and Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Gabriel Amari, commended the governor for the initiative. They lauded Governor Ododo for his dedication to fulfilling campaign promises and ensuring the well-being of the residents, including efforts to enhance security across the state.

Similarly, the Attah Igala and President of the Kogi Traditional Council, Matthew Opaluwa, expressed appreciation to the governor for his commitment to alleviating the suffering of the people.

Governor Ododo concluded by reiterating his administration’s dedication to serving the citizens diligently and impartially, regardless of political affiliation, tribe, ethnicity, or religion. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize the needs of the less privileged and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in overcoming the challenges facing the state.
