Emotions on Tuesday night rented the air as the 38 worshippers abducted by terrorists at the Christ Apostolic Church CAC Oke Isegun, Eruku returned to their hometown of Eruku, Kwara State.
The freed worshippers arrived in Eruku at approximately 6:30pm on Tuesday, where they were warmly received by relatives and community members.
The worshippers abducted during a thanksgiving service in an attack that left three people dead and one injured on November 18 are reuniting with their families days after Kwara state authorities confirmed their rescue.
In a late Tuesday statement, Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti LGA Chairman, Dada Sunday said the rescued individuals were formally handed over to Chairman Awelewa Olawale Gabriel in Ilorin by Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He described the handover as the conclusion of what he tagged ‘’a coordinated rescue operation’’ involving federal and state security agencies.
He also acknowledged the medical care provided to the victims and reassured residents that security across all 10 wards of the LGA would be reinforced.
Meanwhile, Nigerians are calling on the Federal Government to reveal the details of how the 38 abducted Kwara worshippers were rescued.
According to authorities, the rescue operation involved the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Air Force, with Bola Tinubu personally coordinating the efforts. The government has not disclosed whether any ransom was paid or if the kidnappers were apprehended.
Lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor in an interview demanded transparency, asking the government to explain the methodology used in the rescue and the fate of the abductors. He emphasized that Nigerians deserve answers to ensure public confidence in the country’s security architecture.
