Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has reiterated the commitment of the Lagos State Government to compensate both landlords and tenants affected by the construction of the second phase of the Blue Rail Line around the Okokomaiko area.
LAMATA Managing Director, disclosed this during a press briefing held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the agency.
Akinajo emphasised the state’s adherence to due process in matters of displacement and assured that displaced residents would receive compensation.
She highlighted the state’s history and track record in following international best practices.
“When it comes to the displacement of people, I think we have demonstrated that we follow due process, and we pay due compensation.

“So, for us, we follow international best practices, and we ensure that everybody that is displaced is compensated,” she stated.
“We are the first organisation that compensated tenants. What we’ve found out is that the tenants will not be compensated, and the landlord will take the money and go. But because we have identified that that is a problem, we repay tenants as well, so that nobody in the state is left behind.
“All we’re trying to say is that we will do our best to see that all who have to be displaced will be duly compensated,” she emphasised.
