The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday passed a vote of confidence in Speaker Mojisola Meranda, reaffirming its support for her leadership amid heightened security and protests at the assembly complex.
The plenary, presided over by her, was held under tight security as legislative workers demonstrated against alleged plans to remove her.
Security operatives, including officials of the Department of State Services (DSS), reportedly clashed with the workers while sealing Meranda’s office, along with those of her deputy and the clerk, earlier in the day.

Tension has persisted in the assembly following the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as speaker on January 13 over allegations of abuse of office and corruption.
Reports indicate that there are moves to reinstate Obasa, a development that has further intensified the crisis.
Meranda arrived at the assembly complex around 11:15 a.m. on Monday, greeted by legislative workers chanting slogans in her support.

Inside the chamber, with about 32 lawmakers in attendance, a motion was moved and unanimously supported to pass a vote of confidence in her leadership.
“Madam Speaker, all member standing before you, I move a motion to say that we do pass the vote of confidence on Rt Hon Mojisola Lasbat Meranda”, a lawmaker stated during the plenary.
The ongoing power struggle has continued to create uncertainty within the assembly, with security operatives maintaining a heavy presence at the complex.
