Lagos Court Orders Detention of Suspect in Child Defilement Case

In a recent development at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, an individual named Wasiu Oriyomi has been ordered to remain in custody at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre.

The detention follows allegations of Oriyomi’s involvement in the defilement of a minor, aged seven.

The accused, whose place of residence remains undisclosed, faces charges of defilement but has entered a plea of not guilty.

Presiding over the case, Justice Rahman Oshodi has decreed that Oriyomi be held at the correctional facility where he is presently confined.

The commencement of the trial has been scheduled for February 22, 2024.

State counsel Inumidun Solarin presented to the court that the alleged crime took place in August 2022, located on Oludele Street, Ikola Odunsi, Ikeja.

It was reported that Oriyomi violated the privacy of a young survivor, whose identity has been protected.

The prosecution asserts that the act is in violation of Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, enacted in 2015.

A conviction of the alleged crime carries the severe penalty of life imprisonment. The court awaits further proceedings in thematter.
