The Lagos State government, through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), has charged popular online influencer Suraj Oyewale, also known as #SirJarus, for allegedly assaulting his wife. On Wednesday, SaharaReporters revealed that the DSVA had announced #SirJarus’s arrest and detention.
On Thursday, the agency issued a statement on its X account, stating that the influencer had been charged in court on two counts: assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. He was arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court 5.
The statement read: “Surajudeen Oyetunji Oyewole (@SirJarus) has been charged to Court, (Court 5, Ogba Magistrate Court) on Two Counts.
“Count l: Assault against his wife.
“Count ll: Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace,” the agency said.
It was reported that on June 28, the agency referred an allegation of abuse involving #SirJarus for investigation.

SirJarus addressed the issue through a series of now-deleted tweets, providing clarification on the incident with his wife, Mrs. Oyewale Ayoola. In the tweets, SirJarus alleged that his wife engaged in fetish practices and provocative behavior, which he claimed led to a physical altercation.
In a statement by Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the DSVA emphasized that, as the statutory agency in Lagos State dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence, they take the matter very seriously.
The agency reiterated that domestic violence in any form is unacceptable and that the Lagos State government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against it.
“We have referred this to the Commissioner of Police (Gender Desk Department) to ensure that an investigation commences.”
These statements have sparked outrage on social media, particularly on X.com, where users have expressed a wide range of opinions on the matter.
