Lagos Residents Queue to Purchase Seized Rice at Discounted Prices Amid Economic Hardship

Dozens of Lagosians were witnessed queuing up eagerly to purchase bags of rice recently seized by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

This move comes as the NCS had earlier expressed its intention to distribute confiscated rice to the public in light of the prevailing economic challenges and escalating food prices.

In a video shared on Twitter on Friday, a long line of Lagos residents could be seen waiting patiently for their turn to buy the rice.

The 25kg bags were reportedly being sold at the discounted rate of N10,000, significantly lower than the N26,000 price tag found in some local markets.

One buyer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to obtain rice at a more affordable price, stating, “A bag of rice (25kg) is reportedly being sold for #10,000. The Customs Service says it secured approval from the government to dispose of the seized food items to needy Nigerians at discounted prices.”
