Lagos State Seals 19 Event Centres for Safety Infractions

In a bid to uphold public safety, the Lagos State Safety Commission has taken stringent measures by sealing 19 event centres across the state for safety infractions.

The commission’s Director-General, Lanre Mojola, revealed this development during a recent routine inspection aimed at ensuring compliance with established safety protocols.

Mojola emphasized that the safety assessment initiative is an ongoing effort to fulfill the commission’s mandate of preventing accidents, particularly during the festive season.

Prior to the inspection, event centre owners were notified to adopt safety best practices and register events with 250 guests and above to obtain an Event Safety Permit through the commission’s registration portal.

Taking decisive action, the commission sealed prominent event venues, including White Stone Event Centre, Lekki Coliseum, Leisure Park, La Madison, Haddasah, The Summit, Villa Park, De Dove, Majesty, The Podium, Celebrations Gardens, and Tastee Event Centres. These closures were attributed to nonconformity with established safety standards.

Mojola affirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting routine inspections to ensure ongoing compliance within the events and hospitality sectors.

He urged the public to report safety infractions observed at events and public facilities to enhance collective safety in lagos.
