In a tragic incident, a security guard was fatally stabbed while trying to mediate a quarrel in Lagos. The police command in Lagos confirmed that Yusuf Akadogo, a private security guard, lost his life after being stabbed by an Okada rider in the Idi-Araba area.
The police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, informed journalists about the incident on Tuesday. He explained that the stabbing happened on Thursday around 9:20 p.m. when the police received a distress call from a concerned community member about a disturbance on Igbira Road, Idi-Araba.
“On that fateful day, around 9:20 p.m., the police received a distress call from a concerned community member regarding a disturbance at Igbira Road, Idi-Araba,” Mr. Hundeyin said.
According to a witness, the deceased security guard stepped in to resolve a minor altercation between an Okada rider and another person. Unexpectedly, the Okada rider turned his aggression towards the security guard and stabbed him in the stomach with a knife.
“The victim was rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, for urgent medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack, and the area is currently under surveillance as efforts to apprehend him are ongoing,” said Mr. Hundeyin.
In a separate incident, the police arrested four men for allegedly breaking into a musical instrument warehouse in the Ikota area. The arrests followed a report from the warehouse owner about a theft on June 11 at around 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Hundeyin stated that two young men were caught with two large speakers allegedly stolen from the warehouse. The businessman reported that goods worth millions of naira had been taken.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that a man called Pastor, now at large, conspired with the suspects on June 10 at about 11:30 p.m. They had driven into a warehouse in the Okota area with a mini truck vehicle, with which they carted away their loot,” Mr. Hundeyin explained.
The 25-year-old security guard and 33-year-old supervisor, who had keys to the warehouse, were later arrested. However, the suspect known as Pastor, who lives in Oshodi, fled before the police arrived.
Efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect and recover the stolen items while investigations into both incidents continue.
