The Lagos State Government has issued an order to close a number of well-known markets located inside the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex. Among the markets tucked away in the state’s Ojo Local Government Area are the well-known Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPAMDA) and BBA.
This drastic measure was implemented on Sunday and was brought on by suspected environmental violations. A coalition of representatives from the Lagos Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) carried out the enforcement (LAGESC).
This development was confirmed by Kunle Adeshina, the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources’ Director of Public Affairs. He disclosed that Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, was giving these agencies instructions.
According to reports, a number of environmental sanitation violations, including improper trash disposal procedures and unpaid waste disposal fees, led to the closure of the markets.
