Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial candidate, has slammed the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, for sharing an outdated video to accuse a woman of illegal waste disposal to promote bigotry.
He accused Wahab of using ethnic sentiments to divert attention from the worsening waste crisis in the state.
In a post on X, Rhodes-Vivour stated, “When bigotry is always the preferred tool to address the genuine concerns of residents, you put your brain in a permanent state of mediocrity. Lagos deserves excellence, not excuses.”
He criticized the government’s handling of environmental issues and emphasized the need for practical solutions.

Rhodes-Vivour proposed integrating waste pickers into Lagos’ waste management system to enhance recycling, encouraging waste separation at the household level, and increasing public education on responsible waste disposal.
He stressed that these measures would create jobs, reduce pollution, and improve the city’s sanitation.
The controversy comes amid growing frustration over Lagos’ waste problem, with many residents demanding accountability from the government.
