Lagos Contract Worker Dies After Jumping into Firm’s Iron Melting Pot Amid Escalating Hardship

A 25-year-old contract worker at a company located in the Industrial Scheme of Odogunyan area in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has reportedly died after allegedly jumping into an iron melting pot.

The incident occurred on August 3 at around 3:15 p.m., according to a report filed by the company’s safety officer to the Sagamu Road Police Division.

The worker, whose name has not been disclosed, was attached to the AOD Section of the company. He allegedly ran towards the iron melting pot, an area off-limits to all staff during operation, and jumped into it.

Despite attempts by his colleagues to stop him, the worker’s body was completely melted.

The Lagos State Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the tragic event and stated that detectives had visited the scene. The family of the deceased has been contacted, and an investigation is ongoing.

Hundeyin stated, “He jumped into it and all efforts made by his colleagues to stop him proved abortive, while his body was completely melted. Detectives from the station visited the scene of the crime. The family of the deceased has since been contacted, while investigation is ongoing.”
