Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 Lagos governorship election, has insisted that Lagosians, not the Sanwo-Olu-led government deserve recognition for the state’s GDP growth.
In a recent statement, he noted that while the state boasts a GDP of $259 billion, this wealth has not translated into improved living standards.
He stressed that working-class Lagosians remain burdened by high rents, poor housing, and economic hardship despite the government’s claims of economic progress.
He further criticized the state’s infrastructure, describing it as inadequate for a mega-city. According to him, pothole-ridden roads, non-functional streetlights, and an overburdened public transportation system contribute to daily struggles.

He added that waste management remains inefficient, creating health and environmental hazards. He argued that these issues persist because the government has failed to prioritize inclusive development.
Rhodes-Vivour warned that Lagos’ economic achievements are meaningless if they do not improve the daily lives of its residents.
He emphasized that wealth should not be concentrated among a small elite while the majority continue to suffer.
He urged for leadership that focuses on inclusive growth, ensuring that every Lagosian benefits from the state’s economic success.
