The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed 11 of its officials over allegations of extortion and bribery.
The officials were among the 12 who faced a disciplinary panel on Thursday, November 30, 2023, for various offences. Only one official was cleared of any wrongdoing.
The panel, which comprised the Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan, and three permanent secretaries, recommended the dismissal of the 11 officials to the State Civil Service Commission for ratification, according to a statement by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq.

Taofiq said the panel’s verdict was in line with the extant rules as guided by the State Civil Service Rules and Regulations. He added that the Acting General Manager warned all Comptrollers, Commanders and Zebras of the agency to shun corrupt practices or face severe punishment.
He also urged the public to support the agency in its restructuring by reporting any errant officers with proof of evidence via any of the agency’s complaints hotlines.
He said the agency was determined to weed out the few bad elements tarnishing its image and ensure efficient traffic management in the state.
