Some aggrieved students and parents of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso have dragged the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to court over his decision to relocate the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in the institution to Iseyin.
The plaintiffs are challenging the governor’s authority to move the faculty without proper consultation and consideration of the academic and social implications.
Governor Makinde had announced the relocation of the faculty to Iseyin in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone as part of his efforts to develop the region and promote agricultural education.
He had also ordered the second-year students of the faculty to resume at the Iseyin campus for the second semester of the ongoing academic session.

However, the plaintiffs, who are four students of the faculty and their parents, are not satisfied with the governor’s action.
They have filed a suit at an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso, seeking an order to reverse the relocation and recall the students back to the main campus.
They have also sought an injunction to restrain Makinde and his agents from moving the faculty or any other courses outside the main campus.
The defendants in the suit are the governor, the education commissioner, the acting vice chancellor of the university, and the provost of the Iseyin campus.
The plaintiffs are represented by Barrister Adebayo Oyedokun, who said the relocation was illegal, arbitrary, and detrimental to the academic interests of the students and the reputation of the university.
The suit, which was filed on Friday, November 3, 2023, has not been assigned to any judge as of the time of filing this report on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
The plaintiffs are hoping that the court will grant their prayers and restore the status quo of the faculty.
