A total of 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have officially switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that appears to be linked to the persistent political tension in the state.
The brewing crisis became apparent after the Rivers State Assembly Complex was set ablaze on October 29, marking a significant escalation in the political turmoil. In response to the incident, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, pointed fingers at Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of masterminding the burning of a section of the State House Assembly complex.
The internal discord among members of the State House of Assembly had escalated to the point where some lawmakers initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.
