A Liberian lawmaker and member of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Moima Briggs-Mensah, has voiced strong support for suspended Nigerian Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling on fellow parliamentarians to speak out against what she described as political intimidation.
Speaking at the ongoing First Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja, Briggs-Mensah condemned the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha by Nigeria’s Senate and her ongoing criminal prosecution.
Briggs-Mensah emphasized that the issue goes beyond national politics and represents a broader threat to the rights and dignity of women in leadership across West Africa.

“What happens to one woman in public service should matter to us all. Hon. Natasha’s case is about every woman’s right to speak, to lead, and to serve without fear or intimidation,” she declared during plenary.

Senator Natasha, a member of Nigeria’s delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament, was unable to participate in the session due to her suspension.
Briggs-Mensah said the silence around the matter was unacceptable and urged her colleagues to rally behind Natasha as a show of solidarity for women’s political participation in the region.
