Three pupils of Tansi International College, Awka, were killed by lightning on November 4 while playing football in the rain. Six others were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State chapter, has expressed its condolences to the management of the school, the parents and families of the victims, and the Catholic Diocese of Awka, which owns the college.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, SWAN said it was deeply saddened by the tragedy, which it described as a huge and irreparable loss to the society and the sports community in particular.

The association commended the school for its role in the development of sports by making its pitch available for various sporting activities, including the Anambra Independent Football League, the biggest independently-run football league in the state.
SWAN also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and the fortitude for the bereaved to bear the losses.
